I would have to say our first day of tutoring was a success. It wasn’t perfect, but I was able to accomplish all components of the lesson with my student with help from his mom. He loved the games on SMART Learning Suite, I also included some of the ClassDojo clipart for decorating your room since this is now my room.
Tools I used to get started:
  • Google Slides
  • ClassDojo Room Decoration clipart
  • Google Hangout
  • Zoom Room
  • SMART Learning Suite
  • Clipart from EduClips
Somethings I am working on tonight

  • Figuring out screen sharing for presenting and interaction. Google doc worked great for presenting with Zoom room, but was not great with google hangout. It could definitely be, I need to learn how to use it better for both.
  • Figuring out the best way to include the SMART learning suite games so I can see the screen he is working on.  Part of the learning happens when I can interact with the student while play is happening. Without seeing what is happening on his screen I am not able to see what he is successful at and what he still needs help with.

There is definitely a learning curve with distance learning and it will not happen overnight.  My hope is to stay connected, have some learning success, keep students engaged, and help them develop some independence so parents do not have to be so involved the whole time.

If anyone knows how I could do this better I would love to hear your ideas.
